Crisp Keyring

A Crisp Keyring makes an unusual gift for the friend who has everything!

What you’ll need:

  • An empty crisp packet
  • Scissors or hole punch
  • Baking Tray
  • Oven
  • Keyring loop

1: First, have a bag of crisps! Try to open the packet at the top as carefully as possible so as not to rip the packet more than necessary.

2: Once you’ve finished the crisps, make sure you’ve cleaned all the crumbs out of the bag and cut a hole in the top left hand corner, roughly the size of a 5 pence piece.

3: Place the bag on a baking tray and flatten out as well as possible .

4: Bake in a preheated oven (250 C) for around 10 mins, check every couple of minutes. The bag will begin to shrink!

5: After around 10 minutes, the crisp bag should be around 40-60mm wide. Remove from oven, flatten with the back of a spoon whilst still hot if any corners have folded over, and leave to cool for 5 minutes.

6: The bag will be a mini version of your favourite crisps! Once cool it becomes much harder than a normal crisp packet, and you can thread onto a keyring.

I used to do this when I was a kid, not make the key rings, but shrink crisp packets! This is a great idea to make something completely unique!!

I remember doing this as a child, I’m so glad I found your tips on how to do it again! What a wonderful way of recycling crisp packets.
