Christmas Beaded Star

November 24th, 2007 · 1 Comment

This beaded star makes a beautiful embellishment to stick onto Christmas cards or gift tags. It could also be sewn onto bags or purses, hung on the christmas tree, or just scattered on the dining table for a beautiful sparkly decoration.

If you’ve not worked with small beads much, it can be a little fiddly to begin with, but soon you’ll be rattling them off and coming up with different star designs of your own.

What you’ll need:

  • Assortment of glass seed beads -minimum of 2 different colours (the shinier and sparklier the better!)
  • Bugle Beads
  • Needle and Thread

1: Start by feeding 5 seed beads onto your thread

2: Sew back through the first bead, pulling the beads together to form a small loop which will be the centre of your star.

3: Pick up 2 beads, then 1 of another colour (we’ll call this bead x), then 2 more of the first colour then thread through the next of the 5 original beads that formed the loop in step 1. Repeat this step 5 times until you’ve gone through each bead on the original loop of 5.

4: Sew through the beads until you reach bead x. Pick up a bugle (long) bead, then 4 seed beads, and sew back through the first of the 4 seed beads, pulling tight before picking up another bugle bead and sewing through the next bead x along. This will have formed the first point of your star!

5: Repeat step 3 until you’ve created all 5 points of the star, then when complete sew through a few beads before knotting your thread and cutting it. The more you sew back and fore through your star, the stronger and more fixed in shape it will be.

Your finished star can now be stuck, sewn or hung as a great decoration or embellishment!
